Jan van Schaik is an artist and architect based in Melbourne.
He is director of MvS Architects, a researcher and senior-lecturer at RMIT Architecture & Urban Design, founder of+Concepts, designer of Lost Tablets, and creative sector activist at Future Tense.
Making art about architecture, and vice versa, Jan is engaged in the governance and communities of both.

THE RED BOX
A collaboration by artist/architect duo Olivia Lennon and Jan van Schaik. Housed at l’Escaut artists residency in April 2024 for Art Brussels. The project is an iterative and experimental performance, conceived in reverse.

Lost Tablets
Derived from acts of abstract architectural composition, the Lost Tablets are a collection of 100 objects exploring and named after the Ship of Theseus thought experiment and paradox. This paradox questions whether an object remains the same after all its original components have been replaced over time.

Creative Ecologies
This national research project was instigated by Future Tense to understand what it takes to build thriving creative communities. The project was launched at Artlands 2018 and is developing an open access online tool for policymakers and practitioners.
